Ebb/Flow: A Cancun Beach

My husband and two adult stepsons spent a glorious day on a Cancun beach last January. We are grateful we tucked in the trip before the shutdown. I spent the morning making a photo sketchbook of the beach outside our hotel.

Landing here felt like an accomplishment after our flight out of Minneapolis was delayed by a nasty ice storm, and we had spent a week driving unfamiliar roads on the Yucatan Peninsula. We stayed in Mérida, a spectacular colonial city, explored Chichen Itza with a guide of Mayan descent, and ventured to Celustún to see the winter habitat of pelicans and flamingoes. In Cancun, we unwound at the water’s edge before confronting winter again.
